Geensboro, High Point and Jamestown

Regarded as a suburb of Greensboro and High Point, NC, Jamestown is rich in United States heritage. Two National Register Historic Districts are located here: the Jamestown Historic District and the Oakdale Cotton Mill. The Jamestown Historic District lines both sides of Main Street and includes many significant buildings from the 19th century. The Oakdale Cotton Mill is the oldest cotton mill in continuous operation in Guilford County. Gun collectors will associate this city with classic Jamestown Rifles, now prized items. These rifles were made by over 75 locals during the 1800s.

The Mendenhall Plantation offers one of the most complete views of 19th century life. You can spend a full day at this notable Jamestown attraction. There’s the main house, corn crib, barn, medical school, blacksmith shop, tannery and general store – all genuine constructions. Tour guides will take you around and share fascinating tales of the local history. An incredible carriage with a false bottom that was used to transport slaves to the railroad leading to the North can also be viewed up-close.

While Castle McCulloch isn’t open to the public unless an event is going on, it’s worth driving by this majestic stone building just to gaze at the scenic presentation. Surrounded by lovely woodland greenery, a drawbridge leads into this Jamestown castle, and outdoor patio terraces provide a great venue for a wedding or party. Another site that’s worth driving by to take a look is the World’s Largest Highboy Dresser, located in Furnitureland South, Jamestown. This 85-foot tall wooden dresser boasts beautiful carved details. If you have time to do some furniture shopping, the massive item marks the spot of the world’s largest furniture store!

A more contemporary-retro experience can be appreciated at the Turntable, a vintage and eclectic live music site. Designed with a café atmosphere, coffee, wine and beer are served by the glass. Guests feel like family in this cozy Jamestown farmhouse. Live concerts can be enjoyed every night, as well as comedy evenings on Thursdays.
